OSHA releases preliminary top 10 citations for FY 2018

his week OSHA announced the preliminary list of the 10 most frequently cited workplace safety violations for fiscal year 2018. Fall protection kept its position at number one on the list, while eye and face protection landed at number 10 as a newcomer to the list. MORE

OSHA forms two-year alliance with Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals

OSHA and the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) formed an alliance to provide training on worker safety in the maintenance, reliability and physical asset management professions. The alliance plans to focus on reducing exposure to slips, trips and falls and electric shock in addition to encouraging engagement in outreach initiatives such as the Safe + Sound Campaign. MORE

Technical session looks at OSHA activities

During the 2018 National Safety Council Congress & Expo, a technical panel reviewed OSHA’s current activities. One topic was the rapid response investigations that address incidents involving amputations and hospitalizations. The process directs employers to provide information on avoiding those injuries in the future using a collaborative approach. Other topics included the whistleblower protections, crane operator certification and trench safety. MORE

New data resource shows safety trends

The NSC announced a new safety data resource – Injury Facts database. The resource will contain data on occupational injuries and illnesses and incorporate research from other sources in order to make the data more meaningful. MORE

Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) provides tips on rural driving

Driving in rural areas can introduce different hazards than city or highway driving. TDI released five tips for driving safety on rural roads, including watching for different types of obstacles and road surfaces. MORE
