OSHA asks for nominations for maritime advisory committee
OSHA is working on reviving all advisory committees and is currently seeking nominations for its maritime committee, MACOSH. The 15-member committee advises OSHA’s secretary of labor on programs, enforcement, new initiatives and standards involving maritime industries. Nominations are due by Dec.10. MORE
OSHA releases preview of crane operator certification requirements
OSHA released a preview of the updated crane operator certification requirements ahead of the final rule publication date. The agency will require certification by type of crane and not lifting capacity, but employers can accept certifications based on type or type and lifting capacity. The rule also requires employers to ensure operator competency through training, certification and evaluation. MORE

CSB issues call to action
Based on a 2017 incident, the CSB issued a call to action on combustible dust to receive insight into hazard recognition, responsibilities and methods of communication. The agency has found that efforts to manage hazards have failed to prevent combustible dust explosions and has concern for the ability to determine a safe dust level. MORE
