    Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 

     

     

    OSHA extends comment period for crane operator certification

     OSHA is granting an additional 30 days for comments on the proposed update of the crane operator certification requirements. The new deadline is Aug. 29.  


     

    Groups file lawsuit over recordkeeping rule

    Three public health advocacy groups have issued a lawsuit over OSHA’s suspension of the submission deadline for Forms 300 and 301 data. The groups state that the agency did not follow proper protocol including publishing a notice in the Federal Register and opening a comment period.  

     


    The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) 

     

    MSHA opens applications for safety grant

    MSHA is now accepting applications for its Brookwood-Sago Mine Safety Grants Program. The agency will provide up to $250,000 in grants for developing mine safety education and training programs. Applications are due by Aug. 23 

     


    The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) 

    Workers’ comp videos available in Spanish

    The Division of Workers’ Compensation released a video series that explains workers’ comp in Spanish.

     Tips for avoiding drowsy driving

    Driving while drowsy can impair judgement, put drivers’ lives in danger and raise employers’ costs. The Texas Department of Insurance emphasizes five tips to reduce drowsy driving including getting enough sleep, avoiding alcohol and sedatives, talking to a doctor, staying aware of signs of tiredness and creating a driver safety program.
