New legislation seeks to ban asbestos The number of deaths from asbestos exposure in the U.S. is estimated at 13,500 to 16,000 deaths per year. The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2017, introduced Nov. 2, would amend the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to eliminate exposure to asbestos.
